前田耕平 「あわいの島」展
前田は2022年にアドベンチャーワールドと共同で「動物園の未来ラボ」アーティストプロジェクトを実施。アドベンチャーワールドがパーク理念を「いのちをみつめ、問いつづける。いのちの美しさにきづく場所。」とし、動物園のこれからの存在意義を社会に問い、「いのちの循環」のデザインを考える活動を始めたタイミングで、前田は当施設と動物園を併設する施設における様々な事柄の関係・距離を独自の視点から見つめてきた。動物と人間、自然と人工、娯楽と教育、集団（群れ）と個人（個体）をはじめとして、動物園とその仕事を取り巻く環境は、両極端を結び合わせようとする営みの中で育まれてきた。決して二項対立になり得ないこれらの事柄の「あわい」をアドベンチャーワールドを冒険するように制作した映像作品《あわいの島》が本作である。またプロジェクトのアーカイヴや撮影で使用した衣装などの制作プロセスを「動物園の未来ラボ アーティストリサーチプロジェクト あわいの島」展で発表した。

Kohei Maeda: “Awai Island” Exhibition
In 2022, Maeda collaborated with Adventure World to launch the “Future of Zoos Lab” artist project. Adventure World redefined its park philosophy as “Contemplating life and continually questioning it. A place to discover the beauty of life.” At that very moment, as Adventure World began questioning the future significance of zoos for society and exploring the design of the “cycle of life,” Maeda examined the relationships and distances between various elements within this facility and the adjacent zoo from his own unique perspective. From animals and humans, nature and the artificial, entertainment and education, to groups (herds) and individuals (specimens), the environment surrounding the zoo and its work has been nurtured through efforts to bridge these extremes. This work, the video piece *Island of the Interstice*, was created as an exploration of Adventure World, focusing on the “interstice” between these elements that can never be reduced to a simple binary opposition. Additionally, the production process—including the project archive and costumes used during filming—was presented at the exhibition “Zoo Future Lab: Artist Research Project: The Island of the Interstice.”
